Yyteri with its beautiful dunes, Mäntyluoto, Reposaari and Ahlainen make up a unique tourist destination with their various sights.

PARADISE FOR SUNBATHERS

Six kilometres of fine sand and dunes – there is plenty of space to enjoy and utilise in Yyteri. Yyteri has one of Finland’s most beautiful beaches. One of its best assets is its versatility; while windsurfers enjoy Finland’s best conditions in seawater, children can experience all the splendours of a beach holiday. The Yyteri area offers the possibility of enjoying a leisurely vacation combined with all kinds of activities from beach games to golf, kiteboarding and nature hikes. The area is also famous for its abundant birdlife.

EXPERIENCE THE SEA

The sea surrounds the whole area, from the thundering breakers of Mäntyluoto and Reposaari to the low waves in Yyteri. From the coast you might see cargo ships from faraway lands arriving at the Pori ports and small fishing boats leaving early to fish from Ahlainen or Reposaari.

GREAT VIEWS FROM 63 METRES

The totally renovated Yyteri Observation Tower offers splendid views from as high as 63 metres (206 ft). The tower has a fine restaurant, open on request, and a cafe open in summer. You can also try wall climbing here (organised by Ohjelmamestarit).

REPOSAARI – BALLAST PLANTS AND FISHING BOATS

The Reposaari wooden housing district has a long history. You can still see some characteristics of the era of sailing ships. Ballast soil brought to the island contained seeds from faraway places, so exotic flowers bloom in Reposaari every summer. Maritime history is present in the island’s sights: places worth visiting include the recently renovated coastal wartime fortress and a Norwegian-style wooden church with votive boats.

Reposaari is the biggest fishing port in all of the eastern Gulf of Bothnia. You can watch its operation from the observation deck of the Merimesta fishing centre. The island also has an active guest harbour, Marina Merilokki, with full services.

During the summer of 2008, Reposaari will host the national Holiday Housing Fair.

MÄNTYLUOTO – STORMS AND SAILOR ROMANCE

Enjoy the versatility of salty seawater and the incredible coastal atmosphere in Mäntyluoto. The Mäntyluoto Hotel, built in 1918, recalls the time of ancient sailors and their wild adventures at the far corners of the world.

Mainly built in the 19th century, Uniluoto village has photogenic wooden villas with romantic lace details. Within walking distance, the stormy sea opens out from the Kallo lighthouse island, where thundering waves crash onto the magnificent rocks of the shore. The rocks offer great views out to sea, with ten-metre-high water columns rising from the Kolmikulma shallows.

USE THE CAUSEWAY TO THE WIND ENERGY PARK

MMäntyluoto and Reposaari are connected by a causeway built over the sea. The wind energy park along this causeway consists of several windmills with huge rotating blades. Obtain more information on wind power from the wind energy park’s information centre.

AHLAINEN’S ISLANDER HISTORY

The northernmost district of Pori, Ahlainen, bathes in the Bothnian sea’s waves. Ahlainen is a lovely insular village with little roads and shore sheds. Take the northern harbour road to visit this magnificent coastal attraction. The centre of the village is dominated by the oldest wooden church of the Pori parishes. Completed in 1796, the church has a beautiful bell-tower designed by C. L. Engel.

If you are interested in history, Ahlainen has a lot to offer. A shore village was built in Ahlainen in the 17th century; there are still some sheds and piers left of this village. You'll also find some remaining “rälssi” (tax-exempt) farm houses and little island houses built among the large boulders.

Ahlainen is an excellent setting for hiking, paddling and cycling – and of course fishing. Recreation routes pass through idyllic village roads and have several well-equipped rest stops along the way.

The Ahlainen Youth Association’s Summer Theatre has entertained audiences every July since 1992. This theatre group has a well-established position in the Satakunta theatre family.
